Color of Light
May 15 to June 30, 2009
with the opening reception, May 15, 7 to 10 PM.
Diane Grguras has a B.S. in Medical Illustration from The Ohio State University and an A.S. in Scientific Illustration from San Bernardino Valley College in California. She has worked as a graphic designer and illustrator and is a member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society, the Pittsburgh Pastel Artists’ League and the North Hills Art Center.
Her work in pastel is in the plein aire tradition and considers color, temperature and the effect of light.
Her work has won awards in many local shows and can be seen online at the Pittsburgh Pastel Artists’ website as well as the Gallery on 43rd Street.
Diane states that plein aire painting explodes expectations. I have to approach it without preconception. Looking at a place in changing light and atmosphere is what drives and challenges an open air painter.
A place that at first appears to be a jumble of old buildings or ragged trees forces me to look deeper and appreciate the value of what’s there. What I look for is the way light falls on shapes and the color it reveals. It doesn’t matter if it’s the natural world or an urban setting.
